I am a child of God

Tonight my daughter asked me to sing to her as I tucked her into bed. The song I sang is one every child in our church learns. The first verse goes like this:

I am a child of God,
And He has sent me here
Has given me an earthly home
With parents kind and dear.
Lead me, guide me,
Walk beside me,
Help me find the way.
Teach me all that I must do
To live with Him someday.

That song has always been my checkpoint. I can’t very well sing that song about loving parents if I’ve been screaming at them all day long, now can I?

  1. THIS is exactly what resonates with me, and with a lot of others, I think. It’s those types of things that make us think “oh,” and decide to get rid of what we are doing that isn’t peaceful. You know, all the telling me in the world to quit yelling won’t have nearly as much effect as the picture of what you portrayed here. It creates an emotion that I can connect with — and that is how we influence. I really do appreciate this vignette, because it is easy to remember, and powerful.

I also really liked the idea of it being a checkpoint. What ARE other checkpoints like that? (Great idea for your next blog — I’d love to read other checkpoints. This is great!)
